Mind mapping
A mind mapping is a diagram used to organise information. It is hierarchical and shows relationship among the pieces of the whole. It is often created in a single concept, drawn as an image in the centre of a blank page, to which associated representation of ideas such as images, words and parts of words are added. Major ideas are connected directly to the central concept and other ideas branch out from those major ideas.
Since mind mapping works like the brain does it allows you to organise and understand information faster and better.
Mind mapping can also be drawn by hand either as "notes" during a lecture, meeting or planning session, for example or as a higher quality picture, when more time is available. Mind mapping is considered to be a Spider Diagram.
The 5 essential characteristics of Mind mapping are:
* The main idea, subject or focus is centralized in a central image.
*The main themes radiate from the central image as "branches"
* The branches comprises of a key image or key word drawn or printed on its associated line.
* Topics of lesser importance are represented as "Twigs" of the relevant branch.
* The branches form a connected nodal structure.
How to make a Mind Mapping?
1. Think of the general central theme and write that down on the centre of the page ex. Food
2. Figure out sub themes of your main concept and draw branches to them from the centre, beginning to look like a spider web ex. Meat, Diary, Bread, Pulses, Veggies etc.
3. Make sure to use very short phrases or even single words.
4. Add images to invoke thoughts or get the message across better.
5. Try to think of at least 2 main points for each sub theme you created and then finally create branches out of those.
